The Rempis Percussion Quartet is a free-improvising whirlwind that draws inspiration from a shared interest in West African and Latin American rhythms, coupled with American funk and free jazz. THE ENGINES
The Engines is a collaborative quartet founded in the spring of 2005. The group began as trio, featuring several mainstays of the Chicago improvised music scene: Dave Rempis on saxophones, Nate McBride on bass, and Tim Daisy on drums. In the spring of 2006, trombonist Jeb Bishop was added to the group for one concert. The dynamic of this lineup worked so well that Bishop immediately became a regular member of the band.

BALLISTER
This free-wheeling trio was an idea discussed for several years by the band members before they eventually met at a closed session in 2009. Since the session felt great, they went ahead with some live dates in 2010, first with a concert on the Immediate Sound Series in Chicago in June which was recorded and released as “Bastard String,” then with a US tour in November.

Dave Rempis and Tim Daisy are two musicians whose work has helped to define a generation of Chicago improvisers. Having performed together since they both hit the Chicago scene in the fall of 1997, these two have played literally hundreds of concerts together with groups including Triage, The Vandermark Five, the Dave Rempis Quartet, The Rempis Percussion Quartet, The Chicago Improvisers, and countless other ad hoc groupings.
