REMPIS/BISHOP/KESSLER/ZERANG
Active since 2007, this free-improvising quartet features some of the strongest voices on the Chicago scene, with musical relationships that date back for decades. Outside of the many ad hoc contexts they’ve all worked in together, Bishop, Kessler, and Rempis worked for many years in one incarnation of the Vandermark Five, while Bishop, Kessler, and Zerang are all original members of the Peter Brötzmann Chicago Tentet.

REMPIS/WARD/MCBRIDE/REED
Active since the fall of 2008, this quartet pairs Rempis with hotshot young alto star Greg Ward, backed by the indomitable rhythm section of McBride and Reed. Focusing on the Eb horns (alto and baritone) Rempis assembled this quartet to work on some of his original compositions, paired with tunes by undersung masters including Johnny Dyani, Dudu Pukwana, Charles Davis and Julius Hemphill.
